The Uber-Cool healing brush tool
I can't take credit for this tool, it was included in a tutorial in IFX some time ago, whilst I can't remember the issue or find the tutorial I would like to thank the author of the tutorial for sharing this. I include the steps to making this tool here as it has become integral to all of my Photoshop work and produces a smooth soft blend between colours and values that is tighter than just using the blend tool.
How to create the Uber-Cool healing brush tool:
> Open Photoshop
> Create a new file - 100 pixels by 100 pixels
> Go to Edit>Define Pattern, name and save
> Pick your healing brush tool (which looks like a sticking plaster / band aid)
> In the tool options at the top of Photoshop click the radial button with Pattern next to it
> Choose the pattern you just created from the drop down box
Now the healing brush is set up to blend based on the pattern - when you use this in your work it will look like you are painting white onto your image, however when you release your stylus you will be left with a smooth blend.
The same technique can be used to create detailed blends and quickly introduce texture into your images using your existing colours
